Rollin Gartzke's Candidate Statement — Bringing Community Back to Goleta
I was born and raised in Goleta. I went to the same schools, played in the same parks, and enjoyed all the wonderful things that make the Goleta Valley home. Now, I want to give back to the community that gave me so much.
As a past President of the Goleta Noontime Rotary Club, I have a long history of serving our community and bringing people together. I believe that same spirit of service is what Goleta needs on City Council.
We need to put safety first.
That means safer neighborhoods, more street lighting, additional sidewalks, and roads that are properly maintained and repaired. It means improving traffic flow and making sure our streets work for the people who live here every day.
It also means planning responsibly for emergencies. We should not be reducing traffic lanes in ways that could hinder an emergency evacuation or make it more difficult for first responders to reach those who need help. Our roads should help firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and residents—not create additional obstacles.
For too long, it can feel like safety is being put third behind other priorities. I believe it is time to change that.
My approach won't be that of a career politician. It will be Families, Safety, and Community First. I want to meet with residents, listen to their concerns, and work together on practical solutions that make our neighborhoods safer, our streets more efficient, and our community stronger.
Goleta is more than a city. It's a community—and I want to help bring that sense of community back to Goleta.
